Preparations for SXSW 2014 are well underway and it’s time to make your plans! What movie will you catch? What band will you go see? What interactive speaker sessions will you attend? It all happens next month. The festival starts March 7th with both Interactive and Film events. A recent online article noting that the BBC television show Sherlock, now airing on PBS, “is not a detective show, but rather a show about a detective” reminded me of the writing we do here at DeLaune and Associates. Because in our work for technology companies, we’re not producing technical writing, but rather writing about technology.

Over the last several years, we’ve had lots of discussions with clients about what role social media should play in their marketing. Some companies are avid social media followers and participants—others still aren’t comfortable with social media in their marketing mix. Sometimes this reluctance seems to be based in a “how would my company benefit from that?” type of mentality.

With the ongoing stories about Target’s data breach, a few of us at DeLaune and Associates have felt all kinds of emotions—including yours truly. I’ll freely admit it, I’m a Target shopaholic. So, of course, I shopped there during the peak of the breach timeframe: Nov. 27 to Dec. 15, 2013. And thank goodness, there has been no fraudulent activity on my credit card account. (Well, none yet: whew.)
